Holden Cruze Sedan

Holden Cruze has definitely improved the mechanical package and is a better value-for-money than previous models. The CD has been dropped from the current Cruze line-up and has been replaced by the Cruze Equipe.

Even if the old range looks similar to previous models, the latest Cruze has more equipment boosting its appeal. In the new version, the engine has also been upgraded and the SRi and SRi-V both have a 1.6L turbo-charged engine. To improve the cornering performance, a raft of suspensions has also been made.

Mechanical Upgrade

The most significant change in the Holden range is the replacement of the 1.4L turbo engine to a 1.6. This allows the turbo engine to produce 132 kW and 230 Nm which is 29 kW and 30 Nm more than the previous engine. This engine is the same one used by the Opel Astra GTC.

For those on a budget, the 1.4L engine is still available in automatic at the base price model. Its 104 kW and 175 Nm 1.8 petrol and 120 kW and 360 Nm turbo diesel remain unchanged. All engines have a 6-speed automatic transmission. The specific addition of components and tweaks has improved shift quality and mapping tremendously.

The new components make the six-speed faster, allows it to shift crisper, and certain models in the SRi line have gained a sport shift mode that has a downshift function. Unfortunately, their diesel variants do not have these upgrades.

Cruze’s suspension package has also been upgraded with new damper and spring rates. On the other hand, the CDM and Equipe models have an upgraded suspension tune. Both the SRi and SRi-V versions have a sports-tuned chassis. This means that they have firmer springs and dampers, rigid rear axle and high-performance tires.

Special Features

The entry-level Cruze Equipe’s features have gained upgraded front fog lamps, rear parking sensors and 17-inch alloys. These features are on-top of the standard trip-computer, auto headlamps and cruise control.

The mid-range CDX has upgraded keyless entry and ignition, reverse camera, climate control, leather seating, steering wheel and gearshift. 18-inch alloys are included along with these features in the SRi-V. However, the features of the SRi do not include rear vision camera, climate control, key proximity and leather seating.

The myLink infotainment system is included in all the models. Along with Bluetooth and audio streaming, MyLink also has standard CD player functions, radio tuner, and auxiliary input. The MyLink system is quite robust and can actually go online through a smartphone’s data connection. Currently equipped with the Stitcher and Pandora music apps, Holden is expecting new apps to be available in the near future.

As for safety equipment, all models have traction control, ABS, EBD, brake assistance, stability control and 6 airbags. Holden Cruze Sedan has maintained its 5-star ANCAP safety score.
